tricks of the autodidact

  • classroom
    • note taking
      • notebook/ blank three-hole-punched printer paper
        • one side pre-taken notes; other side class notes. 
  • flashcards
    • physical cards cut in half
    • Anki
      • good for mobile and computer too
  • studying 
    • Ebbinghaus 
      • after about ten min
      • after that is done, 30 min
      • then, 90 min
      • three hours
      • six hours

  • reading
    • don'ts 
      • read shit (eg, university student composition book, ghost writer, 
    • do's
      • read classic prose or that which you want to write (eg, Hemmingway for concisest)
    • not awe inspiring material, even a bit dry
      • reward per paragraph/ page (and I leave a food that I have overabundance of, unsalted peanuts, for a snack to eat only when I've not been reading--they're enjoyment to eat has diminished, staying inelastic)
